At the age of ten life seems simple, it's all about running jumping and climbing trees. By eighteen you have discovered the opposite sex, alcohol and nightclubs. By twenty five you are your own person, confident and full of life. Suddenly you hit thirty. You find yourself questioning your choices from the years that have past, feeling slightly left on the shelf, wondering where your life is heading, juggling family and friends and faced with ever aging parents. You are not alone, welcome to 30 years and countinga sideways look at life in your thirties.

Who & what

  • Me, hi I am Martin. I hit my thirties a few years ago. The only upside is I'm fingers crossed it goes better than my twenties. When I'm not moaning on here then you can find me spending time with my beautiful girlfriend Maz, out taking photographs, playing on the Wii and xbox 360, loosing at Texas Hold'em or just down the pub.
  • Maz, my beautiful girlfriend or better half. We actually met through Facebook of all things a few years ago which resulted in the long running joke that I got her off eBay. Why she puts up with me I'll never know. Thankfully we both like pretty much the same stuff which means we go hand in hand. I consider myself very lucky to have her in my life.
  • Tom, my longest and best friend. Part geek and part ninja Tom and I go back some twenty eight years or so. If there is a stupid story to tell chances are that it will feature Tom and I somewhere. Although we spent most of our youth destroying our livers (Tom even drank bleach once) we have now grown up a bit which means a more civilised afternoon of F1 and dinner has become our weekly routine. That said if there is cause for a party you can always find us there.
  • Louise, is Tom's long running girlfriend, Louise is the success story out of the group, clever, fun and with her own house and a great job. Tom really landed on his feet here. She is a regular at our weekly F1 afternoons and down the pub.
  • Mark, another long running friend of both Tom and mine. Once married he is now separated and trying to find his way through his thirties. Loud with a very off the wall sense of humour Mark enjoys a pint or ten. Deep down though lurks a little puppy longing to be loved (very deep mind you).
      • Lou, a long time friend of mine who pops her head up once in a while at social functions. She studied to be an actress but never really got anyway with it. Her boyfriend is Paul and she is also Jamie's sister.
      • Jamie, yet another long serving friend and like Tom and I he is also a bit of a geek. Sadly since he moved away from the area I haven't seen him as much as I once did. His girlfriend is Naomi and he is also Lou's brother.
      • Hayley, is Tom's ex-girlfriend but has remained friends with pretty much everyone in group after they split. To the best of my knowledge she hates me but we got talking and things are looking up. Throws a good BBQ mind.
      • Jacqui, a long long suffering university friend. We studied the same course and first met in halls. We have remained friends ever since. Jacqui is a true friend, funny, clever and beautiful her soon to be husband is a lucky guy.

                            • Naomi, I moan spelt backwards! Tiny with a gothic dress sense. See Jamie.
                            • Fran, another old university friend who like Jacqui I don’t get to see as much as I would like but whenever the chance does happen we always have a great laugh and time together. She is witty, clever and owns a hot tub. What more could you want?
                            • Paul, frustrated metal thrasher with a dark sense of humour. See Lou.
                            • Chris, party animal, crazy drinker and lone gun with an eye for the ladies. I’m pretty sure that I picked him up in a pub somewhere along the line.
